It’s that time where people get to celebrate and elevate. A lot’s going on from the recording studio to the basketball court to the college halls. Taylor Swift is selling-out records. Stephen Curry is turning-out shots. And Tracee Ellis Ross gets an honorary degree. It’s all good for brains, beauty, ballers and beats.

Ross was ecstatic about the honor from her alma mater Brown University. She was among six alums who’ve ‘got game’ in their own fields. Her honorary doctorate degree was given because of her “grace, talent and strong sense of self, passion for self-expression, and pushing the boundaries of imagination.”

That’s true for Ross, the co-star of Black-ish on ABC. It might even carryover to others whose greatness is tied to the fact that they got goals. Just ask the Golden State Warriors and Cleveland Cavaliers who’re expected to meet in the NBA finals. Their sheer will and determination is nothing to hate but appreciate.

Curry returned to the court in game 4 of the Western Conference finals after a scary fall. Lebron James stayed on the court in game 3 of the Eastern Conference finals while battling fatigue and leg cramps. For Curry, James and others with next level dreams, it’s all about where their ‘A-game’ meets their ‘B-side.’

Taylor Swift from her recent Billboard Awards coronation is one of the hottest music artists right now. Stephen Curry’s got a champion’s heart after being named regular season MVP. For Ross, her honorary promotion to Ph.D. long after her own graduation is one that now allows her to be called Dr. Ross!

Time for winners to celebrate. As rising stars get to elevate. Lot’s going on from the recording studio. College halls and b-ball courts in the barrio. Taylor Swift albums got the hots. Stephen Curry making impossible shots. Tracee Ellis Ross with honorary degree feat. Good for brains, beauty, ballers and beat.

Ross ecstatic about recent honor. Given by Brown University her alma mater.  Among six other alums who’ve ‘got game.’ In their own fields they’ve made a name. Honorary doctorate not at all about race. But for strong sense of self, talent and grace. Passion for putting imagination in its right place.

True for Ross, co-star of ABC’s Black-ish. And those masters of their own fetish. Might carryover to greatness on display. Tied to goals that will expire in May. Ask the Warriors or Cavaliers as expected rivals. Since they’re about to reach the NBA finals. Sheer will and determination simply crucial.

Curry returned to court in game four. Hoping to even the score. James stayed on court in game 3. Battling fatigue, leg cramps and making a plea. For Curry and others with next level dreams. It means playing ball like past championship teams. Where their ‘A-game’ meets their ‘B-side.’ And fans get to enjoy the ride.

Swift gets latest Billboard’s coronation. One of the hottest in music compilation. Stephen Curry can relate to music’s pop. As NBA regular season MVP he’s on top. So Ross gets promotion to Ph.D. rank. Nothing to do with sales in the bank. Now called Dr. Ross in some circles. Long after her graduation chronicles.

Celebrity guests have been stopping by like there’s no tomorrow. Many of them have been on the show before, but this is their final go-around. The Late Show with David Letterman is about to sign-off. Industry watchers look back and see how Letterman created ratings gold with a formula that won’t grow old.

Letterman first tried his hand with a variety talk show on NBC. After it was cancelled Johnny Carson picked him up as a fill-in. This helped with gaining exposure and building his professional chops. Letterman saw an un-served niche and made his next move into late night TV around his comedic form.

Ask any athlete, executive or showbiz star and they’ll say the key to ratings gold is in turning form into a formula. For Letterman and talk show producers it’s about showing celebrities as regular folks and turning regular folks into celebrities. Unlike the British Royals not many people are born with household names.

With Letterman as well as regular “jane’s and joe’s,” a winning formula might also be about turning a challenge into an experience. Letterman had the challenge of Leno to keep him on point. An athlete has the challenge of a fierce competitor to keep them from becoming complacent or even irrelevant.

In a recent interview with Jane Pauley, Letterman was asked about his future plans. His response was “I feel naked and afraid.” It’s like going to a place with no name. As with Pauley and Oprah ‘priority one’ was about embracing the next chapter. But for the most part it might also be about reaching the next level.

Celebs have been stopping thru. Like there’s no tomorrow in view. Many been on the show before. But this time it’s for the final score. Late Show with David Letterman to sign-off soon. Set for taking trips to the moon. Industry watchers look back and see. Letterman had ratings gold with guests from A to Z.

First tried hand with variety talk show. Then NBC cancelled when ad dollars didn’t flow. Letterman then picked-up by Carson team. For him it was like living the dream. Helped him gain exposure like sun on farm crops. By building his comedic form and professional chops.

Athletes, execs and showbiz stars might say. Turn form into formula to become ratings mainstay. With Letterman and producers showing celebs as regular folks. Plus skits to add-in a few pop jokes. Turning regular guests into celeb-ready fame. Unlike British Royals most peeps not born with household name.

A formula for regular “joe’s and jane’s” as well. Turning challenge into experience a tough sell. Letterman had Leno to keep him on his heels. Athletes have fierce competitor and know how challenge feels. Good way to avoid becoming complacent. Or losing fan-base and become irrelevant.

Letterman interviewed about future plan. Afraid and feels naked without his band. Sort of like going to a place with no name. Maybe feeling like he’s losing his game. As with Jane Pauley and Oprah who tried to capture. ‘Priority one’ is in embracing next chapter. Or even going to next level for happy ever after.

Some of the big names in entertainment went from Vegas to New York. First they watched the big fight on Saturday and then were at the Met Gala on Monday. Their private jets were parked on the runway ‘wing to wing.’  Meanwhile, J.K. Rowling and Bethany Mota have been spilling their guts on living the dream.

Rowling has been responding to her Twitter fans about characters on the Harry Potter series. She wishes she hadn’t dropped a few of them from the plot. She looks back on her own journey and might relate to words from Maya Angelou who once said “There is no greater agony than bearing an untold story.”

This fits with how the Harry Potter series came into being. Rowling was stuck on a train during her commute and decided to start writing. After getting home she spent the next five years building the story. Since that travel delay Rowling has developed her unproven writing skill in creating a mega-force empire.

While for Rowling there was also the pain of depression, it was the pain of bullying that helped Mota forge ahead. She saw Youtube as a way of expressing herself through fashion, beauty and spreading hope to teens. If not for the support from family and friends they would otherwise have been unsung stars.

One of the more recent milestones for Rowling is the Harry Potter attraction at Universal Studios in Orlando. She’s also released a novel and is working on a screenplay. Moto has a teen fashion line and a new music single. They’ve turned their pain into gain, skill into thrill and guts into glory.

Rowling responding to Twitter fans. About Harry Potter series and future plans. Wishes she hadn’t scratched a few. From the plot for others that are new. Looks back on her journey and might relate. To words from Maya Angelou’s slate. Saying there may be no greater agony. Than bearing an untold story.

Good point when one thinks about the series birth. And how much Rowling is now worth. After being stuck on a train commute. Decided to start writing, just couldn’t refute. Spent next five years building the content. So for some the books are heaven-sent. Turning unproven skills into dollars that pay the rent.

For Rowling there was pain from depression. For Moto a matter of bullying confession. Saw Youtube as a place of expression. Sharing fashion, beauty and memorable impression. Spreading hope to many a teen. Building brand and clothing line green. So if not for family and friends. May have had different ends.

Recent Rowling milestone that says bravo. Is Harry Potter ride in Orlando. Her writing pen’s ready for more pay. Having released a novel and screenplay. Moto with fashion line and new music single. With little time as a teenager to mingle. Pain into gain, skill into thrill. And guts into glory that’s their fill.
