It was the block shot many will remember. LeBron James came soaring back to prevent a layup. Then Kyrie Irving hit a 3-point shot. These two plays sealed the win. There’s also Simone Biles and her high-flying gymnastic routines. James & Biles have turned the breakfast of champions into GOAT ratings.

Biles’ teammate Aly Raisman told USA Today “Even when the coaches talk to us, they’re like, ‘Don’t even count Simone. She’s just in her own league.’” Maybe James and Biles are the ‘greatest of all time’ in their sport? They give us 5 keys for bringing our A-game in ways that rub-off on teammates and co-workers.

It’s as if James and the starting-5 understood what it would take to be great. So they brought their skills to the court to match the stakes of the game. Some brought grit while James brought an overriding sense for the goal. After losing the first two games many sports commentators began to think it was over.

Then it seemed group chemistry kicked-in. James gathered himself and took a big gulp of belief. Almost anyone who’s had to step-up their game knows about responding to a defining moment. This shift had him playing at a higher level. He put his stamp on the series with stats that were other-worldly like Biles.

A recent tweet from Steve Harvey said “Discipline determines your destiny!” That message comes through in the performances of James and Biles. This helps to raise their stock like money in the bank. Plus, it’s another ‘Harvey nugget’ that makes you wanna stomp for next-level dreams.

The block shot many will remember. Didn’t happen in September. LeBron James came soaring back. To prevent a layup on the rack. Then it was Kyrie’s 3-point shot. Sealed their win and history’s spot. There’s also gymnast Simone Biles flying high. James & Biles take breakfast of champions to the sky.

Biles’ teammate had her say. Telling USA Today Biles don’t play. Even when coaches pump them up. They say Biles is drinking from another cup. In her own league on the mat. Her and James might be GOAT fat. Giving us 5 keys for A-game readiness. For teammates and co-worker steadiness.

As if James and starting-5 knew what’s on their plate. In order to take it to being great. Skills to the court not just by name. But to match the stakes of the game. Some brought grit and guts to the floor. James saw the goal for raising his score. Losing first two games on the road. Some thought Warriors had it sold.

Then Cavs group chemistry kicked-in. Made them come away with a win. James took a big gulp of belief. While fans had a sigh of relief. Stepping-up their game with commitment. And responding to the defining moment. In making a higher level playing shift. James and Biles do things that give others a lift.

Who knew that Starbucks CEO Howard Schultz grew up in the projects? Well, that’s the story he tells in an online feature. It gives us a sense for why making money and being a force for good can go hand-in-hand. Schultz and James Corden seemed to have found themselves in unlikely dream jobs, but nailed it.

As Late Night host Corden once told the Wall Street Journal “In many respects it’s the dream job for me. I don’t know if it’s playing to my strengths. It’s more like ignoring my weaknesses.” Schultz and Corden know about that moment you feel like “it’s now or never” while others tell you “it’s not gonna happen.”

Corden is one of those “Brits turned Yankee.” He had doubts about taking the Late Night gig. He wasn’t sure about being up to the challenge. But he kept his nose to the grind with other things to perform on stage. It was one such occasion where a CBS exec saw him and made the decision to offer him the spot.

After some time, he eventually came to his senses. He went with the “It’s now or never” option. He’d get a chance to participate in the late night space. His show has now created cultural hooks as a Youtube sensation with the wildly popular “Carpool Karaoke.” Corden’s busy hosting and his team’s busy posting.

Schultz told the Huffington Post how his father-in-law said to him “It’s time you give up this [coffee] hobby and get a job.” But his wife who was the bread-winner in the family told Schultz “We’re going to follow these dreams that you have. We’re going to see this through.” So he was busy going for the big payback.

Howard Schultz says he grew-up “projects” poor. That’s one way he gives his score. So he says in online feature story. So people can appreciate his biz glory. Making money high on his radar. A force for good both near and far. Schultz and Corden in unlikely dreams jobs. But nailed it by not being slobs.

Late night host his latest fame. With a show that bears his name. Told Wall Street Journal job’s right for him. With strengths over weaknesses on the slim. Knowing about the moment he did feel. This can’t be true or for real. Between “it’s now or never” thinking. And people’s “it’s not gonna happen” winking.

Corden moves from England to L.A. “Brit turned Yankee” is what some say. Had those doubts like normal people do. Wasn’t sure he could come through. Kept his nose to the grind. Letting things play-out and unwind. So he’d perform on stage as before. Where CBS exec offered him the spot and more.

After some time came to his senses. “It’s now or never” wasn’t just pretenses. He’d get his shot in the late night space. To participate and earn his place. A show oozing with cultural hooks. And Youtube links for later looks. Wildly popular “Carpool Karaoke” stream. Corden’s busy hosting, web postings by his team.

Schultz telling media outlet. Of father-in-law putting down the gauntlet. Saying it’s time to give-up this coffee thing. Get a job more enterprising. But his wife as bread-winner stood by her man. Focused on building this dream with a plan. To see it through the sense of lack. And reaching for the big payback.

“Float like a butterfly, sting like a bee.” This might be one of the most memorable lines from Muhammad Ali. Well, it seems even bees got the message as 15,000 of them showed up at a tree outside the Ali Center. They came to pay respect to “The Greatest” for working the four corners of the ring and life.

Ali brought skill, stature, salesmanship and then some. He cast a long shadow & big heart. His daughter described his last moments saying “All of his organs failed but his heart wouldn’t stop beating [on purpose].” He gave us at least 4 ways for having more “Ali magic” at work inside and outside of the 9 to 5.

People remember him as a fighter. History records him as three-time Heavyweight Champion of the world. There were memorable occasions where he brought strength, courage and wisdom. But it wasn’t only in the ring that he pulled no punches. Ali fought for his convictions like a modern day Kunta Kinte.

He was a crafty public figure for “telling it like it is.” He’d show up at the pre-fight weigh-in or post-fight press conference with a flashy prediction or explanation. His charisma was charming and disarming. He’d weave humanitarian issues and showtime aura in a way that was like a blend of “Roots” and Reality TV.

His family announced funeral plans to include eulogies by Bryant Gumbel, Bill Clinton and Billy Crystal. It’s likely someone will mention when he carried the torch and lit the Olympic flame. That moment humanized his Parkinson’s condition. It might have been the most inspirational image of his life’s journey.

Funeral plans expect celebrity sighting. With eulogies to bring enlightening. Gumbel, Clinton and Crystal to have their say. And bring it home in the Ali way. Likely to hear about the champ’s torch run. To light Olympic flame cauldron. Humanized by his Parkinson condition. A sharp image of life-journey inspiration.

One way to describe Steve Harvey is “comedian at work.” His thing is to bring jokes to the joint. For Bethany Hamilton, a way to describe her is “surfer at work.” She kinda knows how to walk on water. Both Harvey and Hamilton make what they do at work, play and the everyday look like a walk in the park.

Harvey appears in People Magazine, while Hamilton told the Today Show “All of us have that passion for certain things. It may not be surfing. But whatever that passion is, just go for it.” They know there’s no mountain high enough, no ocean wide enough, to keep “awesomeness at work” from breaking through.

A few years ago Hamilton lost her left arm to a shark attack at age 13. She didn’t take long after recovering to face her fears by returning to the surf board. She recently placed third in a surfing competition, beating out other world-class athletes. It was her highest career finish ever at this event.

Looking back to the early years for Harvey includes a time being homeless and living out of his car. Now he’s seen as the “$100 Million-Dollar Man.” Harvey and Hamilton embody the ideal of putting passion to work and making progress in life’s journey. For Hamilton, it’s like going from party girl to soul surfer.

She might relate to Harvey’s story in People. During his setback he heard God’s voice telling him “If you keep going, I’m going to take you places you’ve never been. It was like God saying don’t quit, you’re almost there.” So even when awesomeness feels stuck, there’s room to make a buck or stretch your luck.

Making what they do at work or play. Look like a walk in the park any given day. He’s all over the TV screen. She’s big on the surfing scene.

After losing left arm from shark attack. She didn’t see it as a life hack. Not long after in facing her fears. Returned to surf board past the tears. Placing third in surfing event. Still doing what she must to pay the rent. Beating out world-class athletes to reach semi-final. Highest career finish she writes in her journal.

Back in the day Harvey had no place. Homeless and trying to stay in the rat race. A few years living out of his car. Seemed like he didn’t have a chance to go far. Now rich enough to own lake or have cake by the ocean. With his career pride and divine promotion. For Hamilton, like party girl to soul surfer distinction.

She might relate to Harvey’s comeback. Telling People he heard God’s knock knock. A voice saying keep on keeping on. Taking you places you’ve never gone. Don’t quit, it’s like you’re almost there. Maybe that’s why he’s so full of flair. Even when awesomeness feels stuck. We can do a few things to stretch our luck.
