Basketball training camp is now in session! While the WNBA season is in playoff mode, the NBA season is another month away. In sports, stars rise to the occasion in ways that can be surprising. That may also be true for actor Michael B. Jordan who’s turned his hood life into a fruitful station in Hollywood circles.

Jordan’s made serious strides with leading-man acting chops. He tells GQ magazine “I’m living the dream, man. This is crazy for me, bro! The cover of GQ was something I always wanted to do as a kid -like, unreal.” He’s proof of how hustle helps build dreams, advance career goals and attract major roles.

He grew up in Newark NJ, at times having to sleep in the kitchen so the oven could provide heat. Since getting the chance to do modeling and smaller acting gigs he’s now in the title role of the upcoming movie Creed, A Rocky spinoff. Hustle for him was less about the streets and more about character building.

His breakout role was in the movie Fruitvale Station. It depicts the last moments of the Oscar Grant tragedy. He’s also had roles in All My Children, The Wire and Friday Night Lights. Whether building acting roles or personal character, he says he learned in school that discipline was the key to achieving dreams.

So what might last year’s top 5 money-makers in Hollywood or Hip Hop say about making it big? Chances are they’ve also used their hustle as advocacy for greater good. It’s why Jordan knows that to stand for nothing is to fall for anything. But to stand for something means everything for hustle to serve a purpose.

Hoops training camp getting set. Final rosters soon to be met. WNBA season in playoff mode. While NBA jocks not yet on the road. Stars looking forward to season rising. In ways that can be surprising. Might be true for actor Michal B. Jordan’s life-in-hood type. Reaching fruitful station and Hollywood circles hype.

With leading-man chops he’s made serious strides. Going places to GQ magazine he confides. Says he’s living the dream that might seem crazy. Folks bett’ not say he’s one who’s lazy. Making the cover a dream he’s had as a kid. Proof of how hustle puts dreams, careers and roles on major grid.

Grew up in Newark good ole brick city. Before Hollywood days and sitting pretty. Had to sleep in kitchen for oven heat. Now living large to his own beat. With modeling and acting his starting point. Upcoming title role in Creed, a Rocky spinoff joint. Hustle less about streets and more character building to anoint.

Breakout role in movie Fruitvale Station. Story of Oscar Grant that rocked the nation. Before that in All My Children soap opera story. Plus The Wire and Friday Night Lights TV glory. Whether acting or personal development role. Says he’s learned discipline’s good for dreams and the soul.

So what say last year’s top 5 money-makers? In Hollywood or Hip Hop movers and shakers. Chances are they’ve used their hustle as advocacy. For greater good and showbiz diplomacy. It’s why Jordan knows stand for nothing is to fall for anything. But stand for something and hustle can mean everything.

Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg announced recently that they’re working on tweaks to the Facebook ‘like’ button. At company headquarters they’re looking into another emoticon. So Zuckerberg might be thanking Viola Davis for her Emmy acceptance speech as confirmation of his social media vision.

During a Q & A at FB HQ he shared that they were not working on a ’dislike’ button. Instead he’s quoted by a CNBC staff writer as saying “we don’t want to turn Facebook into a forum where people are voting up or down on people’s post.” His leadership decision is based on something more than just the ‘like’ button.

As a social media guru Zuckerberg probably knows that every ‘like’ involves an emotion but the range of human emotions aren’t simply a ‘like.’ So he could point to Viola Davis as a good example. The heartfelt responses some had to her acceptance speech at the Emmy’s might better be captured by a ‘feel’ button.

Zuckerberg and his leadership team have big decisions to make that are beyond the Emmy Red Carpet. They have to think about how their decisions make the headline and affect the bottom line. He affirms that leadership is about the kind of community they create and the opportunities people have to elevate.

Davis made strong points from the stage. It’s as if her fashion statement matched her winning statement. Facebook hopes to do the same with the new feature they create for social media expression. Whether as Pope, politician or pop culture icon, leadership is sometimes about who or what you’re fighting for.

Facebook’s Mark Zuckerberg recently said. Company’s focused on staying ahead. With tweaks to the ‘like’ button. Not being social media glutton. Another emoticon on drawing board. We haven’t yet heard the last word. Just might thank Viola Davis for her speech. His next software vision is in reach.

During Q & A at company HQ. Shared how they’re working with a new cue. A ‘dislike’ button not coming anytime soon. Instead they’re singing another tune. Won’t turn FB into an e-post freefall. Where folks vote up or down on people’s wall. Leadership based on doing more. Than ‘like’ button as the only score.

A social media guru that he is. One who know ‘likes’ are just part of biz. For human emotions to be made sane. A ‘like’ is not enough to cover the plain. Could point to Viola Davis for sure. Her speech left tears on the floor. So a heartfelt ‘feel ya’ button might better say. The range of emotions that come into play.

Zuckerberg’s core team has some big decisions. Beyond the Emmy Red Carpet promotions. Decisions that can spin-off a new headline. Or affect balance sheet and bottom line. For many leadership is about community they create. Not to mention opportunities where people elevate.

Davis made strong points from stage. Props to others on same page. Her fashion statement seen in black and white. A winning statement to sum-up the fight. Facebook hopes new feature does same. For social media expression game. Whether Pope, politician or popular hand. Leadership’s about where you stand.

The newest player in late night TV has entered the building! That’s how some saw the debut of CBS’ Late Night with Stephen Colbert. He joins the ranks of comedy hosts who mix politics and showbiz eclectics. Competition for late night eyeballs is on, as Colbert’s hunch is that pop culture can be the star teacher.

He tells USA Today about his new role saying “It gives me everything I want. I like meeting the guests, I like the grind, I like a live audience, I love to hear the laughter. It’s the only job I could imagine that was a promotion.” This is a case of landing a promotion by learning the ropes and not being stuck on stupid.

Colbert made a grand entry with Joe Biden, Jeb Bush and other guests, plus a cameo from Jon Stewart. His interviewing skills and comedic slant are getting people’s attention. Reaching this next level has been a steady output of content built around ‘getting ready for great’ before his breakaway.

It’s been years preparing for this moment after spending time as an understudy and reporter on the Daily Show. This helped him spin-off his own gig on Comedy Central. Hardly anyone questions whether he was the right one to replace Letterman. And even Jimmy Fallon welcomed him to Network prime time.

Colbert adds “I’m looking forward to being sincerely interested in what (guests) have to say without having to translate it through an idiot’s mouth.” His background is built on improv and reputation built on his real love. No matter the guests, Colbert hopes people watch, listen, laugh and learn the civics lesson.

Newest player in late night TV game. Someone who entered the building with a name. Steps-in to host CBS’ nighttime comedy fix. With politics and showbiz top picks. Competition for late night eyeballs in play. Colbert sees pop culture as star teacher of the day.

Tells USA Today his feelings on new role. Gives him everything he wants to spur his soul. Likes the guests the grind and live crowd. Loves to hear when people laugh out loud. Only job he saw as his next promotion. Not stuck on stupid with new found recognition.

Made grand entry with Joe, Jeb and Jon. Other guests too that made his debut #1. Interviewing skills without the endless rant. Getting people’s attention with comedic slant. Reaching next level with steady output of content. Built around getting ready for great breakaway moment.

Years preparing for this gradual rise. A big step-up towards the ultimate prize. Time as understudy and Daily Show reporter. Helped to spin-off own gig as Comedy Central anchor. Hardly questioned as the right one for Letterman’s job. Even Jimmy Fallon welcomed him to the prime time club.

Looks forward to having best scoop. From variety of folks who’re in the loop. Without needing to translate stuff through. An idiot’s mouth that’s right for the zoo. A background built on theater improv. A reputation built on his real love. The guests he hopes will ring true. As we watch, listen, laugh and learn civics anew.

It’s not often that people get to hang-out with Kings and Queens. That’s usually reserved for folks in high standing. Then there’s Bear Grylls who gets to bond with celebrities around survival skills. He and President Obama stepped-out ‘the bubble’ to send a message to D.C. and leave a mark in the wild.

In a clip on Today.com from his show Running Wild with Bear Grylls, Obama is heard saying “This has got to be one of the best days of my presidency. First of all, I’m not in the office. Second of all, I’m not in a suit.” It’s a case of them making a point about wildest dreams by stepping out their comfort zone.

On the show celebrities take a discovery journey. They build confidence and after a while things happen less by chance and more by choice. Overcoming a challenge in the office or the wild is good for leaving a mark or being unbreakable. Plus, a sense of purpose helps with ‘leaving marks before the concrete dries.’

Grylls turned his early career as an SAS soldier into a Reality TV Adventurer. Much of his claim to fame is with beating common fears, taking climbs and surviving the wilds. For him, stepping out the bubble at work is fun, like playing with plastic wrap. Squeeze here before the popping champagne sound you hear.

He says to the British Telegraph “I don’t believe we’ve begun yet. I still think we’re at ground zero, and if we really get our act together over the next few years we can build that into an absolutely huge, huge business around the world.” Obama wants to build a legacy and Grylls wants to build outdoor adventures.

Not often people change shoe strings. Or hangout with Queens and Kings. Left for folks in high standing. Or others with social ranking. There’s Bear Grylls who gets to bond. Around survival skills with peeps he’s fond. Grylls and Obama step-out the bubble. Sends message to D.C. leaving marks in the rubble.

As seen in Today.com clip. He and Obama take a trip. On Running Wild with Bear Grylls. Obama seemed open to new thrills. Sees it as a best day in office as president. Part of being a Beltway resident. This time he’s not in a suit. Making a point without horns to toot. Stepping out comfort zone to bear fruit.

On show celebs take journey of discovery. Building confidence in their ability. Like fire under the feet as a test. Success less by chance but choice and zest. Getting over challenge in the office or wild. Good for adult and adventurous child. Leave a mark or be unbreakable. A purpose like concrete that’s unshakable.

Grylls began career as a soldier. Now Reality TV’s freelance Adventurer. Claim to fame is beating common fears. Surviving climbs past mud, sweat and tears. Stepping out the bubble is like playing. With plastic wrap found in packaging. Squeeze here to sound the pop. Champagne flows and you don’t stop.

Telling British media it’s just the start. Of what he wants to do worlds apart. Hoping to go from ground zero. To renowned survivalist hero. Thinking this could become huge venture. An enterprise in global outdoor adventure. So while Obama works to build a legacy. Grylls hopes to build skill-set supremacy.

Who can get 2000 males-only in an arena to talk about “What Men Think?” That happened in Chicago recently during the season-opener taping for Steve Harvey’s daytime show. It seems there were jeers and sparks flying. Moreover, this is a case of Harvey having his hands in the branding cooking jar yet again.

When asked by the New York Post about blazing new trails Harvey said “The only thing I was really confident about was that I would have a different voice in daytime that wasn’t there before… and about the fact I know I’m funny, and funny works when all else fails.” Harvey markets his success flavors well.

He’s good at changing gears or moving careers by busting-out towards ‘got next.’ Harvey’s become an expert on relationship counsel and mentoring advice. Right before our eyes he’s gone from ‘King’ to common touch, from big personality to bigger person and from jokester to ‘master of the airwaves.’

Making it pop as one of the comedy ‘Kings’ was not the end of the road but the start of his next rise. It’s almost as if he’s turning the concept of the Good Humor ice-cream truck into a Hollywood Mogul enterprise. He sells many success flavors with more happy returns to come from his wildest dreams.

These days he’s being described as “the most powerful man in daytime.” He’s also got a new custom Bobblehead celebrity figure as a baseball park freebie. Harvey wouldn’t be shy about wearing a white suit like the Good Humor Man. He’s a shining star who’s a fun guy to his family and millions of female fans.

Ready to round-up 2000 guys? To talk “What Men Think” and whys? Happened in Chicago just this summer. Some say it was far from a bummer. Part of Steve Harvey’s daytime season opening. With a few jeers and sparks flying. A case of Harvey reaching with his hand. Into the branding cookie jar stand.

Asked by NY Post about his show. As he blazes new trails on the go. Says the only thing that’s sho nuff good. Is having a different voice than others would. Fact that he’s funny always works. Even those times when failure lurks. By pushing success flavas on the ready. Right for keeping his money steady.

Harvey’s good at busting-out. From the shadows to having ‘got next’ clout. Becoming expert on relationship counsel. Giving mentoring advice in life-skills morsel. Going from ‘King’ to common touch then chosen. From big personality to real bigger person. Mixing jokester with ‘soul teacher’ master lesson.

Making it pop in comedy was just the start. To fast-track rise and glimpse of his heart. Almost like the Good Humor truck ice-cream story. Turned into Hollywood media-mogul glory. Markets and sells many success flavas. With surprises for wildest dreams of the neighbors.

These days being called a power-broker. “The most powerful man in daytime” mover-shaker. With custom Bobblehead souvenir newbie. As a baseball park fan-club freebie. Harvey’s not shy about wearing a white suit. Like the Good Humor Man he’s serving millions of fans in his pursuit.
