The college football playoffs are set. Four teams will do battle on the gridiron. Fans are hoping for good fun and a great time. But before that we got to see Steve Harvey’s Showtime at the Apollo reboot & Lebron James named S.I. sportsperson of the year. They’ve got game and remind us how not to be lame.

In his interview with Sports Illustrated James said “I dreamed of being Batman, of making the NBA, of buying a house for my mom, of being the Fresh Prince of Bel-Air—the Fresh Prince of Akron, it was as big as I could dream.” These guys find the biggest motivation to achieve what no one saw coming.

Harvey’s hitting the flow as the ‘hosted by’ king. He could host a ‘dog & pony show’ and make it work even with only animals in the audience. For us regular folks we should replace the word ‘hosted’ with our own strengths. That’s like ‘created or produced or led by’ without letting stuff go to your head.

James knows this as the world’s greatest after bringing an NBA title to his hometown Cleveland. His childhood story of some rough times is one that could be defined as ‘greatness by.’ So far he’s taken two teams to the highest level of achievement and he’s working on doing the same in his community.

So Harvey’s taking a ‘jump’ with his talk show from Chicago to LA. James is upping his teammates’ roles. They know the purest motivation we get at home, the office or the marketplace is being ‘loved by’ God and the folks in your circles. Plus, they could buy back the block and spot their name on it.

While Lebron James takes S.I. sportsperson loot. Both still see ways to flash their game. In reminding us how not to be lame.

In S.I. interview James looked back. On how his dream did stack. Wanting to be Batman, NBA pro and so. Buying house for mom as he’d grow. The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air, really Akron. As big as his dream was spun. Finding major motivation they’ve achieved. No one saw coming except those who believed.

Harvey’s right about hitting the flow. As ‘hosted by’ king on many a show. Could do a ‘dog & pony’ TV series as a beat. Even with only animals in audience seat. Where purest motivation they know comes from God. At home, work, marketplace or on iPod. Plus, they could buy back block hook, line and sod.

Some people have passion for what they do burning like fire! We see it in sports and entertainment where their performance just sizzles. It shows up in their hustle that flows or workplace savvy that grows. That’s how ESPN’s Sage Steele and Toni Braxton worked their way to the mountaintop of major industry.

Both climbed the charts and ladder of their professions. In her recent Lifetime TV biopic Braxton said “It’s a blessing to have all your dreams come true. But even a blessed person is not without pain.” It’s almost as if they’ve been down 2 or 3 roads less travelled in the marketplace of ideas, innovation and inspiration.

Braxton had ups & downs like a roller coaster in her showbiz trek. She was singing at a gas station when she landed her first breakthrough. From there it seemed like the market kept calling for her talent. Then as if in divine timing she caught the attention of LA Reid & Babyface who’d help her rise to the next level.

Steele tells the Huffington Post about her days in the locker room trenches as a female sports reporter. While her challenges were different from Braxton’s they agree that it’s been worth it. They know that sometimes doors open with perfect timing and other times after knocking, kicking or even screaming.

For Braxton it’s been a push here, a pull there and the courage to dare. For Steele it’s been more like steady, swift and at times about her hair. These things connect to the piece of the pie they call their own. So while media’s busy talking about Trump, they’d rather cheer-on those working on their next triumph.

Some people have mad passion. Wit, style not out of fashion. Burning like balls of fire. That makes them go little higher. In sports where play sizzles. Or performance that just drizzles. Shows in their hustle and flow. Betta act like ya know. Sage Steele and Toni Braxton didn’t stop. Till they reached the mountaintop.

Both climbed the chart sessions. And ladder of their professions. Braxton’s glad for blessing to live her dream. Even the blessed have to blow off steam. Been down 2 or 3 roads less travelled. As career became unraveled. Ways to master part we play. Marketplace of ideas, innovation & inspiration’s hooray.

Braxton had ups & downs what the heck. Like a roller coaster in her Hollywood trek. Singing her way at the gas station. To land first breakthrough occasion. From there heard the market calling. So went ahead without the stalling. As if in true divine timing. Caught attention of Reid & Babyface for her next rising.

Steele looks back on sports reporter days. When few were singing her praise. While not walking in the same shoes. Both had to get past some blues. Reaching a point becoming a hit. Knowing that it’s been worth it. Sometimes doors open with perfect timing. Other times after knocking, kicking and screaming.

For Braxton a push here a pull there. Even times of courage to dare. Steele’s been steady, swift and at times about her hair. Connecting things with their pieces of the pie. To how they’d shoot for the sky. So while media’s been busy talking ‘bout Trump. They’d rather cheer those working on next triumph.

It looks like ‘TV Sweeps’ kickoff couldn’t have come at a better time for Dr. Oz. He decided to respond to criticism about his daytime talk show. A group of Doctors thinks he’s a quack. Others came to his defense and think he should cover his back. Dr. Oz is ready to win, lose or shake things up where it counts.

His Columbia colleagues say the show should have a disclaimer. That makes sense when you think about ads for prescription meds. The warning list is sometimes longer than the benefits list. The challenge Oz has is trying to balance ratings versus solutions. (That’s also true for what’s happening in Baltimore.)

He shares medical info beyond the traditional. He blends his training, calling and professional tooling to empower greater health awareness. His M.D. and MBA backgrounds contribute to his market branding. As a brand he knows it’s about managing something, building something and schooling something.

The critics believe he’s taking his audience for a ride with ‘non-proven’ remedies. Oz admits that he’ll have to better manage his communication so that it’s not driven by ratings. He also plans to continue sharing what he sees as alternative solutions to help advance American’s health and wellness.

TV Sweeps is when advertisers size-up programming. This helps set ad pricing and placement. As with any biz venture there’s always room for learning about ‘brand to market’ and teaching about ‘concept to brand.’ But there’s no place Dr. Oz would rather be than serving his patients, students and audience.

Columbia peers want a disclaimer. Instead of asking for show to be tamer. Makes sense like ads for prescription med. Warning list so long it could hurt your head. Challenge is with keeping-up media rating. And sharing solutions for the taking. As seen in coverage of any urban city uprising.

Medical info beyond traditional. Blending training, calling and the promotional. Using his chops to empower health & fitness. With greater results as your witness. With M.D. and M.B.A. in his hand. A background that sells his brand. Managing, building and schooling stuff. Treating content more than fluff.

Critics saying he takes audience for a ride. Oz says in his show he takes a lot of pride. Admits remedies aren’t a money-making stunt. Plans to make show promos not as blunt. By putting ratings where they belong. While sharing alternative med advice to keep Americans strong.

TV Sweeps good for ad sellers. For seeing which program line-ups are winners. Helps with ad placement and pricing. And with market valuation rising. As with any biz venture today. Better ‘brand to market’ means more pay. From ‘concept to brand’ works as well. So for Dr. Oz it’s serving others not just a sell.
