Lilly Singh Gets a New Show, Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson Gets a New Season as They Go Bigger and Shine Brighter for Work & Play Projects

There’s lots of sports & showbiz milestones being celebrated these days. The NFL is in its 100th season and Monday Night Football celebrates 50. Then there’re those celebrities hitting their marks of career longevity and breakout opportunity. That’s where Lilly Singh and Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson fit in.

Singh just launched her talk show on a major TV network. She’s best known as a Youtuber whose Indian heritage makes her the only ‘person of color’ host in the late-night space. Johnson just announced that his show The Titans was renewed for a second season. They’re on the map with years apart in experience.

Things have been quite busy for Johnson with his recent nuptials. Of note, he and his longtime girlfriend were on their honeymoon when he left early to be a fill-in guest on the debut of Kelly Clarkson’s new show. Johnson says his lady loves Kelly and so he had permission to leave early to help-out a situation.

Singh who’s probably not yet a household name, gives props to Johnson and to Trevor Noah. Both have offered their support as she comes into her own game in the new Hollywood space. In a sense, they’ve been using ‘house money’ budgets from Broadcast/Cable Networks for their work & play projects.

They’re in their own lanes working to improve on personal/professional gains. There’s prob a lot for Singh to learn in Hollywood where Johnson can be helpful. And there’ll likely come a time when he’s a guest on her show. Johnson’s got so many projects on his plate, so his career advice might be how he manages:

  1. Focus

A circus juggler manages multiple balls going in circles in the air. They say the trick is as you focus on one ball at a time, it’s to focus on being centered. When you’re centered you maintain good posture, timing and purpose. Centering is what makes juggling acts work and multi-project acts in business soar.

  1. Fuel

Johnson points to a rigorous fitness regimen to keep him centered and fueled. With all that he’s doing from sun-up to sundown, he’s got to manage his energy, passion and nutrition to fuel his drive. He knows that as with cars, there’re different grades of fuel needed to drive our dreams on the road to success.

  1. Franchise

A franchise is usually seen as a brick & mortar store that has hundreds of locations. But Singh will experience a different kind of franchise in showbiz. It’s where she’ll have to master a ‘production formula’ that keeps new episodes coming and new viewers watching, eventually into the hundreds of thousands.

  1. Fame

There’s fresh excitement as Singh starts a new show. Her core supporters will watch because they ‘knew her before.’ Others will come on-board as word spreads and they get to know her. There may be some slip-ups or mess-ups along the way but a good role model for her is how Johnson has managed fame.

While Singh’s a new name, Johnson’s one of the biggest in the game. He’s got five People’s Choice Award nods this year. His summer blockbuster ‘Hobbs & Shaw’ was a spinoff to the Fast & Furious series. They get to go bigger, shine brighter and let their dreams fly like a bird in every direction.

Tip: The key with ‘moving & shaking’ in biz is to go bigger, fly higher and letting your dreams fly in every direction.

Talkback: What’s it gonna take for Singh to rollout with a bang on the first season of her new show?

Serena Williams Left South-Central & Jill Ellis left Geek-Central to realize their Dreams – #WUWECAST

Girl power is in the air (maybe even the water). First it was the women’s soccer team’s NYC parade. Then it was Serena Williams winning her sixth Wimbledon title. In both cases there was history made. So imagine Serena Williams left south-central and Jill Ellis left geek-central to realize their career dreams.

Williams has won all the major tournaments so far this year. After the match she said “At the beginning of the year, this is the one I really wanted to win. So that was the first thing and the main thing on my mind.” Those words might also ring true for U.S. women’s soccer coach Jill Ellis in winning the World Cup.

At age fourteen Ellis moved to the U.S. from England and with that saw a sort of professional reset. She earned technical writing degrees but her love for soccer pulled her from Corporate America back into the sport. Williams made her own moves leaving Compton for a better life similar to that in the Hamptons.

Their dream, as with others, is like a remix of ‘how cool is hot and hot is cool.’ It takes branding your main strengths to be hot. But it takes flexing your alter-ego to be cool. Ellis moved past her ‘geekness’ into soccer greatness. Williams flexed her on-court passion and was later featured in chic ‘red carpet’ fashion.

Their journeys are different but their goal’s the same. Along the way they had to refresh their game and groove. Williams says she’s been doing more dancing as part of her overall workout. For Ellis it was about a shift in strategy during the quarterfinals. She made some changes to the ‘team starter’ playlist.

At the City Hall ceremony Abby Wambach said, “In my opinion, all the women up on this stage believed in that dream, kept believing in that dream.” In a sense, career dreams don’t lie, they burn. They get burned into our brains and storylines. They can get rekindled by a parade and by not letting the dream fade.

Girl power in the air. In water and upper atmosphere. First women’s soccer in NYC parade. Then Serena Williams winning and getting paid. For both there was history made. Sixth Wimbledon title and World Cup trade. Imagine Serena left behind south-central. Her and Jill Ellis realize dreams beyond geek-central.

Winning all tennis majors so far. Enough money to buy friend and fam a car. After match saying this she wanted to win. Main thing on her mind so stick a pin. Words might ring true for Jill Ellis today. As women’s coach they came ready to play. Williams and Ellis took home the prize. More to come as their stars rise.

At fourteen Ellis left England home. Headed to U.S. instead of Rome. A professional reset in her track. Which meant no more turning back. Earned tech writing degrees in college. But left Corporate America for her soccer knowledge. Williams made moves from Compton. A Better life like those in the Hamptons.

Their dream like remix in a way. ‘How cool is hot and hot is cool’ if you may. Takes branding your main thing to be hot. But flexing alter-ego to earn cool spot. Ellis moved past her stroke of ‘geekness.’ Into the world of soccer greatness. Williams flexed her on-court passion. And featured chic ‘red-carpet’ fashion.

Their journeys different in sport and name. But their goal a not too distant same. Had to refresh their game and groove. As seen in their breakout move. Williams adds dance to her workout. Ellis more about a strategy blowout. Made changes to ‘team starter’ playlist. Giving fans every reason to pump their fist.

City Hall ceremony made news. With Abby Wambach sharing her views. “All the women on this stage kept believing that dream.” It’s no accident they jelled as a team. Maybe career dreams don’t lie, they burn. In our brains and a storyline turn.  Can get rekindled by a parade. And by not letting the dream fade.

This week the nation’s eyes were on Washington DC and President Obama’s State of the Union address. Last week many eyes including the President’s were focused on El Capitan’s Dawn Wall in the Yosemite National Park. Obama gave props to Tommy Caldwell and Kevin Jorgeson for reaching the mountaintop.

These friends have been working on a lifelong dream of free-climbing this 3000-ft peak. It’s something they’ve worked towards from childhood. Things took-on greater focus and preparation for Caldwell in 2007. Then in 2009 Jorgenson asked to join him. As they say the rest is history, squashing the mystery.

During the 19-day climb there were twists and slips. Jorgeson had 10 failed attempts to cross a certain part of the rock climb. But it was perseverance and their commitment to lifelong learning that brought success. Jorgeson even studied video of his 10 slip-ups and realized the adjustment he had to make.

That was a game-changer leading to a breakthrough. As Jorgeson made headway, Caldwell waited so they would reach the top together. That’s a sign of a lifelong bond they’ve developed. It’s a friendship that has matured over time just like a savings bond. Even through upturns and downturns their bond paid off.

When asked why they did this project one said “I love to dream big” while the other said “I wanted to know what I’m capable of.”  These were two of the many factors they shared for getting to the next level. Not everybody has to be a daredevil to get there. But getting there does take a level of dare.

This week the nation has eyes on Washington DC. It’s President Obama as State of the Union MC. Last week many eyes focused on El Capitan mountain climbers. They held our attention as daredevil show-stoppers. To them the President’s tweet gave much props. For reaching the Yosemite Park mountaintop.

Friends who’ve been working on a lifelong dream. Of climbing the 3000-ft peak with the help of their team. Something that captured them in early childhood. Maybe even as a feat that challenged their manhood. Greater focus for Caldwell in making history. Then for Jorgeson in squashing the mystery.

A 19-day climb with twists and slips. It was the climax of many previous trips. Jorgeson with 10 failed attempts in getting across. Part of the rock that could have been a loss. With perseverance and commitment to lifelong learning. Studying video of his 10 slip-ups moved him closer to his yearning.

That was a game-changer kind of breakthrough. Making headway past his fingers being black and blue. Caldwell was out-front in their daily trek. So he waited for Jorgeson thinking “what the heck!” A friendship that matured through upturns and downturns. A dream coming to fruition like a savings bond’s returns.

In being asked why they did this together. “A love to dream” and self-awareness” couldn’t say it better. Two of many thoughts they shared as next level factors. Means a lot coming from them since they’re not actors. Don’t have to be a daredevil in order to get there. But getting to the top does take a level of dare.
